Intro

Tell us who you are and what kind of films/videos you create.

I’m Patrick Rafferty, a director and producer of RaffertyWeiss Media (raffertyweiss.com) who creates cinematic videos, animations, and PSAs that move people to feel, think, and act.

Your spark

What first got you into filmmaking or video production?

I fell in love with production when I realized how powerful it is to take an idea or emotion and turn it into a shared visual experience. That moment when story, image, and sound align—that’s where the magic happens.

The craft

What’s one thing you focus on most when telling a story on screen?

Sounds simple, but everything starts with truth. Whether it's a large-scale brand film or an intimate interview, I focus on finding authentic emotion and shaping it into a story that feels real and unforgettable.

A recent win

Tell us about a project you’re especially proud of.

Our recent project with FourBlock, a nonprofit that helps veterans transition into the civilian world, really stands out. We interviewed veterans and told their stories freshly and innovatively—one that seamlessly blends creativity, purpose, and restraint.

Behind the scenes

What’s one tool, trick, or habit that makes your workflow easier?

Pre-visualization and flexibility are my secret weapons. I storyboard, sketch, and plan relentlessly so we can make the set a place of discovery, not stress. However, leave some room for flexibility, because that's where the best moments often happen.

Looking ahead

Where do you see the future of filmmaking heading in the next 2–3 years?

The future of video production is about intimacy and agility—smaller, smarter crews using new tools to tell bigger, more personal stories. Authenticity will always be the most disruptive innovation in storytelling.
