Intro

Tell us who you are and what kind of films/videos you create.

I’m Ava Justin, an actress , writer and filmmaker focused on creating cinematic, character driven stories for modern audiences.

Your spark

What first got you into filmmaking or video production?

I got into filmmaking after realizing that acting alone wasn’t enough. I wanted to understand how stories are built from the ground up, and that curiosity pushed me into writing, producing, and directing.

The craft

What’s one thing you focus on most when telling a story on screen?

I put the most attention on emotional storytelling , making sure each scene has a clear purpose, strong character motivation, and visual choices that guide the audience’s experience.

A recent win

Tell us about a project you’re especially proud of.

My feature film Joy of Horses was picked up for distribution, which taught me a lot about the full lifecycle of a project: development, production, marketing, and how an indie film can find its audience worldwide

Behind the scenes

What’s one tool, trick, or habit that makes your workflow easier?

As both an actor and a filmmaker, I depend on preparation. I build character breakdowns, study blocking in advance, and create mood boards and shot lists so the creative work feels intentional rather than improvised under pressure.

Looking ahead

Where do you see the future of filmmaking heading in the next 2–3 years?

I see the industry shifting toward faster production pipelines, creator-led studios, and vertical storytelling formats. I also see audiences becoming more supportive of creators who take control of their own distribution.
